Help me earn my way to the 2025 AXYS Community Conference
With your support my registration and hotel fees will be free.
Hi everyone,
In the summer of 2019, I was in Atlanta at a conference about the chromosomal abnormality I am born with – TrisomyX / TripleX. It was incredibly exciting and educational, both to hear about new research but also to meet a lot of other girls like me and also the boys who have chromosomal abnormalities. I'm going to Atlanta this summer and would really like to go to the AXYS conference where I have the opportunity to stay at the hotel with the other participants. It's a bit expensive though, hence I've had the opportunity to make a fundraiser on AXYS's website which can be used to support not only my participation in the conference, but also the research on TripleX and the other chromosomal abnormalities that AXYS is researching.
Here's a little about me. My name is Sofie, I am 34 years old and today I live on Langeland in Denmark. Here I live in a beautiful house on the countryside with all my animals – Dog, Cats, Rabbits, ducks and chickens. My parents have always known that I had a chromosomal abnormality. They were informed when I was lying in her womb, by an amniocentesis.
School was not easy for me, I had quite a hard time learning in the way children learn in schools. Luckily I still learned a little as I got some good teachers for extra lessons. After primary school I went to Agricultural Boarding School, I have always been very interested in nature, plants and animals... But 'school' was still not easy for me. I became a model at the age of 17, after boarding school I traveled for a few years around the world, worked in Milan, Athens, London, Barcelona, Hamburg, Manila and ended up living in Tokyo for some time after I had been out there a number of times to work. Life as a model was both hard mentally and physically. I came back home to Denmark after a few years, then the modeling life was over and I had to find something else to do, but since school was not easy, an hence conducting an education, things just weren't easy, I've always wanted to do a lot of things but often burn off my energy quickly.
I got my early retirement around 29 years old, I wasn't so excited about getting it, I just wanted to be allowed to be like everyone else, but after a lot of mental downturns and low self-esteem, for a few years from my mid-twenties then doctors etc. thought it was the best solution for me. I can clearly understand that much better to this day, I still have to learn to say no and not sign up for too many things at once, but practice makes perfect😊. Every year I go for a check-up at AUH about my chromosomal abnormality, I have also participated in a research program. I enjoy being at home, I also enjoy getting out and socializing, but the best thing I know is to go and rummage in my garden, have fun with my animal children and just enjoy the moment. Being with my family, seeing some friends for some board games. And yes.. Then I sleep quite a lot😊.
I hope that you are able to support me via this fund raising opportunity as I would be really exited to join the conference.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Xxx Sofie
